On Saturday February 13 I joined 300+ additional product management and product marketing professionals in an all-day un-conference in Austin, Texas. This was my 3rd consecutive ProductCamp and the second in which I was a speaker. As always, it was a truly invigorating day growing in what I love doing - building great products.
Being surrounded by others who are like minded is more than just a fun way to spend a Saturday. It is a chance to
Teach, Learn and Network
There were many great sessions to join, over 35 in all covering various aspects of our field. You can see a full list of those sessions and their abstracts here. My personal favorite session was "The Next-Generation Toolkit of Technologies for Product Management" by Jeff Lash of SiriusDecisions. As a long-time product leader, many of the tools discussed in his session could help me. I promised myself to check out a couple of them when I return to the office.
In addition to learning, I was pleased to speak at the event. My session entitled "How to be Agile When You're Stuck Under a Waterfall" encouraged those of us that must deliver software through waterfall methodologies to make some changes that will lead us to greater success in our jobs and products. Please have a look at my slides here and provide me your feedback on Twitter @RAndersonTexas.
It was awesome to network with many people I met at previous ProductCamps and to meet many new contacts as well. If you are in the Austin area (or not far, like me, in Houston!) and are a product manager or product marketer, you owe it to yourself to try out the next Product Camp planned for August 6, 2016. Sign up to the mailing list at www.productcampaustin.org so you don't miss out on the chance to register for this FREE conference.
